An English department library is a specialized collection of books around 413 books and other materials curated for students and faculty of an English studies program. These libraries contain textbooks, reference books, dictionaries, and literary works to support both teaching and learning. National and International Level Seminars

National level seminar has been organised by our department. Dr. V. Bharathi Harisankar from University of Madras, Dr. Lillian Jasper from Women's Christian college, Chennai, Dr. G. Vennila Bharathi Women's Government Arts and Science college, Chennai, Dr. Maria Preethi Srinivasan, Queen Mary's college, Chennai, Dr. Padma V Mckertish from Stella Maris college, Chennai and Dr. Amudha Pandian, Research officer, TamilNadu state council for higher education Chennai has been invited as resource person. They have given seminar on the topic of "Women and Culture: The War within and without".

International Conference

The Department of English organised One Day International Conference on 'Emerging Trends and Challenges in English Language and Literature' on 02.02.2023. Dr. Justin James, Professor of English, President- ELTAI-CIETTA University of Technology and Applied Sciences NIZWA Govt. Sultanate of Oman and Prof. Abdulatheef Kampuravan Head, Department of English, Formerly of moe BRUNEI, Govt. Arts and Science College, Kondotty, Kerala have invited as resource persons. Around 293 Students, Research Scholars and Academicians have participated in the conference. Resource persons clearly discussed emerging trends and challenges in English Language and Literature. The clear cut guidance has been given by the resource person.

Extension Activities
  • Following the foot prints of Mother Teresa, 15 students of II M.A English Literature visited an orphanage (SanmarkaGurukulam) in Keeranur in order to witness the condition of orphanages. There were nineteen young children and forty old people. The students went to learn their life style; in turn they came to know how they lead a disciplined life. The young children came out with many queries to secure high marks in their SSLC and HSC examination. Our students had given them many ways of learning. Fifty bed spreads, twenty boxes of used dresses and Rs.3000 for one session food were donated for them on behalf of our department. Our service minded students motivated them in many ways. The main motto of the visit was to create awareness among the young students of our college and also outside world. This beginning will be a 'saga'.
  • The Department of English conducted Department Library Book Review Competition on 12.11.2022 in the department. Fifteen students had participated in the competition.
  • Six students from III BA English, taught English Grammar, Short Story, Prose and Poetry for XII Std Students at Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Karungalpalayam, Erode. They have also received Certificate of Appreciation for their strenuous effort.
  • Department Library organizes Skit, Oratorical, Book Review as Best Practice to develop intensive and extensive reading among students and to increase knowledge as well as fluency of students on 17.02.2024. Students actively participated in the competitions and won prizes.
Collaboration

SHAKESPEARE INSTITUTE OF ENGLISH STUDIES, CHENNAI

  • The English department has collaborated with Shakespeare institute for conducting many competitions for the welfare of the students. So for 1200 students from 2012 to till date were participated and won prizes.

ELTAI-CITTA

  • The English Department has collaborated with ELTAI-CITTA from 2022-2023 and providing training and academic support based on LSRW.
Club Activities
ENGLISH LITERARY ASSOCIATION

The Department conducts various activities for the students through English Literary Association with the motto to develop the potentiality of language of the students. The Association conducts various competitions like Oratorical, Essay writing, Poem Recitation, Skit, Free zone, Collage, Mime, Debate, Facial Painting, AD Wizardry, Literary Parade, etc. to bring out the hidden talents of the students and to give a platform for them to exhibit their skills.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT CLUB

English Department heads the Disaster Management Club for imparting the knowledge for dealing with all humanitarian aspects at the time of emergency for speedy recovery and to lessen the impact of Disaster. Every year nearly 40 students participate as members of the club. The resource person from various departments such as doctors, fire service also invited to our club in order to give institution among the students.

LIMELIGHT PRODUCTIONS THEATRE CLUB (FOCAL POINT)

Theatre Club is designed for students interested in learning more about the aspects of theatre. This includes learning stage terminology. Working on acting skills, set building and costumes make up design. In order for a student to participate in the production, the student must attend theatre club meetings. English theatre club organizes various competitions and drama sessions for the students to enhance their communicating, speaking and acting skills. The students get guidelines to improve their gestures, creativity, stage craft and acting skills. Students learnt various technological issues related to Information Technology. Students learnt different types of shorts by using camera. Activities helped the students to stand on their own.

JUNIOR JCI

JUNIOR JCI WEEK was celebrated by the wing from 20.07.2023 to 25.07.23. Various programmes and events were conducted.

  • Effective Public Speaking: 20.07.2023. This program provides guidance on how to plan and prepare for effective presentations. 20 students from various departments participated and learnt public speaking techniques.
  • Food and Cloth Donation: 21.07.2023. Uncooked food and cloth were donated to orphanage home. Grocery items worth of Rs. 4,000 were collected from students and donated to Karunalaya Children's Home, Erode.
  • Eye and Dental Camp: 24.07.2023. Through the camp, eye and dental care services were provided to a large number of people in a short time. Students, public came and checked their eyes and dental. About 252 members got benefited in both the camps. Doctors and technicians from Imai Eye Care Centre, Erode, Dr. Naresh, from Naresh Dental Care, Erode rendered their service.
  • Honouring the Teachers: 24.07.2023. To inculcate the culture of showing gratitude towards teachers among students community the event was organized. Hods and teachers were honoured with shawl.
  • Clean Drive: 25/07/2023. The drive was started by the slogan "Don't be bitter. Stop the litter". We cleaned our playground by removing grass rashes, gravels and pebbles. About 100 gathered and cleaned the ground.
  • Craft and Poem Writing Competition: 25.07.2023. To enhance imaginative, creative and writing skill, these competitions were conducted. Students created wonderful crafts from waste. Drawing competition on the theme "Tobacco Free India" was conducted. Prizes distributed to the winners. Certificates were given to all participants.
